Book Reviews come in all shapes and sizes these days.

I really like the following type of book reviews: 

StoryTubes-Kids talking up their latest read....

 

There are a number of other StoryTubes to choose from. I intend to get the students to evaluate the videos before they even start planning any of their own. This task allows students to develop skills in talking & listening, reading & writing, multimedia, visual literacy& movie making!!

Learning for Sustainability Rap has commenced.

2010 is the Year of Learning for Sustainability.

The focus of the rap is to share and learn from others

 about ways of living more sustainably.

Even if you are not participating in this rap you can  follow its progress throughout the rest of the term. Rapping is a great way to incorporate ICT and Web 2.0 into CPPT, T&L, S&T and HSIE ( Ian Mc Lean)

The "Learning for Sustainability" Rap is hosted by the NSW DET's School Libraries and Information Literacy Unit.  The rap is aimed at Stage 3 and Stage 4 students. and the first rap introductions can be found by clicking on "Task 1"

 Teaching resources are available for downloading.

The blog also presents a great list of online resources to support sustainability. There is an important section included at the blog on Tips for Students-Cybersafety


For fantastic Sustainability literature visit Reading Enriches Learning (REL)  The array of books featured in Reading Enriches Learning has been carefully selected and written by well-known Australian authors.
Extensive resources have been created for each book, comprising:

•Author and illustrator profiles
•Focus questions prior to reading, during reading and after reading
•Relevant websites
•Student-centred activities
•Interactive proformas and worksheets
•Ongoing assessment ideas (for learning, as learning, and of learning).
Developed by leading educators including Barbara Braxton, Joy Lawn and Jennie Bales, the resources can be freely downloaded and put into classroom practice.
